Inspiring Leaders: Alice Audley
This week I want to celebrate Alice Audley, editor of blogazine Blogosphere!
We met at a Blogosphere meet-up back in early August and got talking. She is super easy to talk to and has an interesting life story to tell!
She has an incredible entrepreneurial mind and is a great example of someone who has persevered in her goals - super important for anyone with an idea or long-term project!
I first heard of Blogosphere back in 2014 when Alice interviewed Fleur De Force for the cover of Issue 3, and it has been growing at an exciting rate since! With the launch of Issue 10 last week, I can't wait to see where this blogazine goes!
What is the most important thing to you in a job? (Generally and in your own).
Being able to create and innovate. At Blogosphere, though we have the core structure of the magazine cemented, we’re constantly fine-tuning bits and brainstorming what might work better and what our readers might enjoy/like to see more of within its pages.
What do you look for in an employee?
Dedication, enthusiasm and passion.
What qualities stand out to you in a young leader?
Being able to think on their feet, stand by their ideas and be resilient in the face of adversity – aka the hordes of people who will try to dissuade you from following your dream to take the safe road.
Did you ever intend to become a leader yourself?
I knew that I always wanted to work in words and my initial plan was to become an author. So did I intend on being a leader? Not really. Did I intend to be in charge of my own career/be self-employed? Yes, definitely.
Do you consider yourself entrepreneurial or intrapreneurial, and why?
During my time at The Daily Telegraph, it would be intrapreneurial – I was within a huge company and thrived off being in charge of big tasks, stories etc. But, deep down, I’ve always been entrepreneurial. I like the challenge of making something from scratch and seeing an idea come to fruition (at school it would be writing plays and seeing them be performed). I get a real buzz from seeing the Blogosphere team grow and readers enjoying a product that all came from one ‘light-bulb’ moment.
If you could give your 21 year old self any advice?
People who tell you that ‘your early twenties are the best years of your life’ are talking rubbish – don’t worry! You’ll figure it out.
